What Is The Fiat Diesel Emissions Claim Scandal?

Fiat is another car manufacturer that has been found to have been involved in the diesel emissions scandal that came to light following investigations into Volkswagen. In July 2020, various Fiat offices were raided by German, Italian, and Swiss authorities, who were investigating whether Fiat had been manufacturing vehicles that produced illegal levels of emissions.

Since then, the car manufacturer has been found to be at fault. The Italian car manufacturer is now facing a £5 billion lawsuit, having been found to have installed defeat devices in their vehicles. It is reported that there are potentially 500,000 Fiat vehicles affected in England and Wales alone.

Not only is Fiat under investigation in Europe, but the car company had to pay £614 million in damages in the United States of America following an investigation into the matter by the US Justice Department.

Am I Eligible To Make A Fiat Diesel Claim?

In order to meet the eligibility criteria to submit a Fiat diesel claim, you need to have either owned or leased an affected Fiat diesel vehicle. Typically, these vehicles would have been manufactured between 2008 and 2020. If you either owned or leased a suspected vehicle, you will also need to provide the necessary documentation that will prove your ownership of that given vehicle. If you have since sold the vehicle you wish to make a claim on, you can still make a claim, however you will also need to provide documents that prove the sale of that vehicle.

Fiat Diesel Claim FAQs

What our customers ask us

What Is A Defeat Device?

In order to cheat emissions tests, Fiat has been accused of installing defeat devices in their vehicles. The device works by recognising that the vehicle has been placed in a testing scenario, and will then lower the amount of emissions the vehicle produces. This ensures the vehicle will pass the legal emissions limit, even though the vehicle could emit up to 40 times more emissions than the legal limit when in the real world.

Although the diesel emissions scandal came to light several years ago at this point, the scandal is still relatively new. This will have a direct impact on how long your case may take to be decided, as there are very few precedences to go off. Your case could take weeks, months, or even years to be decided.

The best case scenario would be if Fiat decides to settle outside of court. This would minimise the media coverage of any cases, which would help Fiat, while also allowing the victims to receive compensation quicker.

Similar to our ability to predict how long it will take in order for you to receive compensation from your fiat diesel claim, we will not be able to tell you how much money you may receive. For the same reason, this scandal is relatively new which means that there isn’t a precedent for us to follow when it comes to compensation amounts.

While each case is considered on an individual basis, we are hoping to represent as many Fiat diesel scandal victims as possible. This will ensure that your case is as strong as possible, which will hopefully maximise the amount of compensation you will receive, while also reducing the decision making timeline.

Now that you know what the Fiat diesel scandal is, and why you should claim compensation if you have been affected, you may be wondering about your next steps. If you are still not sure whether you are eligible, or you are ready to make a claim, you can start the process by filling out our quick, two-minute claim application form. After we have reviewed your application, we will let you know whether you are eligible for compensation, and contact you regarding your next steps.

We work on a no win, no fee basis, meaning you will not need to spend a penny before you have received the verdict of your case. If, for whatever reason, your case has been unsuccessful, then you will still not need to pay out a penny.
